Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Alpes-Maritimes · Bay · 43°42′ N

« Beaulieu-sur-Mer is the bay where the Belle Époque set down its luggage — and never took it up again. »

I

A portrait of the place

Beaulieu-sur-Mer is one of the smallest resorts of the Riviera, and one of the most discreetly preserved. Set in a natural bay between Nice and Monaco, sheltered to the north by the vertical cliff of Cabanon, it benefits from an exceptional microclimate — its Petite Afrique district owes its name to the subtropical luxuriance that flourishes there throughout the winter.

The Belle Époque made Beaulieu its favourite retreat. La Réserve has hosted here since the 1880s, Gustave Eiffel lived here, Queen Victoria came down to stay. And it is here that in 1902 the archaeologist Théodore Reinach had the Villa Kérylos built — a scholarly reconstruction of an Ancient Greek villa, set upon a rocky point facing the sea — one of the most singular architectures of the entire Riviera.

Maison Vehira serves here the guests of La Réserve, the permanent residents of the Petite Afrique, and conveys visitors to the Villa Kérylos. The service is continuous — winter as well as summer — for the bay of Beaulieu, unlike seasonal ports, never truly empties.

II

The Maison in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Vehira operates in Beaulieu with the regularity of a clockmaker. Several international families reside here year-round, or for a significant part of the year, in the enclosed villas of the Petite Afrique or in seafront apartments. For these guests, the Maison proposes an annual attachment, with a dedicated chauffeur and the fine knowledge of habits.

The Maison also serves La Réserve, the historic 1880 palace recognised as Relais & Châteaux, for transfers to Nice Airport and for the Monaco soirées — only fifteen minutes separate them. The immediate proximity to Cap-Ferrat means that many services overlap the two territories : the Maison operates here as on a single shore.

Its motorcars are Mercedes S-Class or E-Class. For the airport transfers of permanent residents — who often travel with a significant volume of luggage — the Maison places at disposal an accompanying Mercedes V-Class vehicle coordinated with the principal motorcar.

IV

The addresses of the Maison

Maison Vehira regularly serves La Réserve de Beaulieu — which its reserve prevents from naming elsewhere — for transfers from Nice, luncheons at the gastronomic restaurant, nocturnal returns from Monaco. It also conveys to the Villa Kérylos, classified as a Historic Monument, for private visits and cultural events held there in season.

On the Petite Afrique and around the marina, the Maison attends the private villas and seafront apartments on prior instruction. Several resident families hold a year-round attachment, which assures them the continuity of service from their principal residence to their Monégasque, Niçois or Cap-Ferrat engagements.

V

The Beaulieu attachment

For residents of the Petite Afrique

Beaulieu is one of the Maison's territories where annual attachment finds its full coherence. Guests who reside in the Petite Afrique or facing the port live here year-round — or almost — and the motorcar accompanies them in all the engagements of daily existence : airport, doctor, social appointments in Monaco, visit to the notary, dinner in Cap-Ferrat.

The Maison proposes here a dedicated chauffeur, a reserved motorcar, and the fine knowledge of the entire ecosystem of the bay. This commitment is rare, and is established only by preliminary conversation with the founder.
